While tastes and trends have fluctuated and evolved over the years, very little has proven more consistent in the fast-casual world than the enduring popularity of the burger. The sandwich is simple but lends itself to variation, allowing it to survive through myriad eras of dining, and it remains the undisputed king of the scene. Proving both the burger’s longevity and that you can never have too much of a good thing, a Memphis business owner is preparing to bring a new burger joint to the neighborhood. Owner Belal Kaid is opening 901 Smash Burger in the old home of a long-time Memphis favorite.
901 Smash Burger has been issued a certificate of occupancy for 3633 Millbranch Road by the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development. Locals may recognize that address as having housed Uncle Lou’s Fried Chicken for 24 years before its closure and relocation this February. While the shift from chicken to smash burgers may be a bit jarring, hungry residents will doubtless be pleased to see the storefront serving up hot meals again.
Mastermind Belal Kaid has had a busy year; alongside the upcoming 901 Smash Burger, What Now Memphis reported this April that the entrepreneur is also launching a pizzeria called Flaming Pizza. Kaid is also listed on paperwork as the owner of Drurar Roastery, a Yemeni coffee shop that opened in Cordova recently.
901 Smash Burger does not yet have a digital footprint. What Now Memphis has reached out to Kaid for additional information and will update readers as details become available.
