The first of its kind is making its way to the Jackson area.

Potbelly Sandwich Works, a fast-casual sandwich shop, is continuing its expansion across the South with the help of franchisee Michael Wimberly.

Wimberly plans to open four locations in the area, with the first expected to open this fall at 4800 Lakeland Drive in Flowood.

“We went up to Chicago and met with everybody at Potbelly, found an incredible support group behind them, and some absolutely incredible food, so it’s going to be phenomenal,” Wimberly told What Now Memphis.

While the Flowood location will follow the same model as other Potbelly shops nationwide, it will feature a unique addition: a drive-thru.

“I like to say that the mom who picks up the kids from daycare can run through Potbelly and grab some sandwiches, never have to get the kids out of the car, grab dinner, and take it home, just make it easy,” Wimberly said.

The menu includes sandwiches, soups and salads, which can be combined into meal combos.

Among the shop’s signature sandwiches are the Italian, meatball hoagie, grilled cheese, pizza melt, chicken club and Wimberly’s favorite — the Wreck, which includes turkey breast, hickory-smoked ham, Angus roast beef, salami and Swiss cheese.

Potbelly also offers sides such as chips, cookies, shakes and breakfast items.

While an exact opening date has not been announced, Wimberly said, “We’re really shooting for October 1, that’s what we’re hoping for.”
