16 Handles, a self-serve frozen dessert chain, is getting ready to open a new location in Wellington at 1383 S State Road 7, Suite 101.

The new location will be operated by franchise owner Benjamin Goldberg, according to Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation records. Goldberg and his wife, Lindsay Hemstreet Goldberg, also have locations in Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. They have not announced an opening date for their third location in Wellington.

Founded in 2008, 16 Handles opened as New York City’s first self-serve frozen dessert shop. Founder Solomon Choi opened the first location in the East Village, focusing on creating an inclusive, experience-focused brand. In 2022, the company was acquired by Neil Hershman, a former 16 Handles franchisee, who plans to lead the brand’s national and international expansion.

16 Handles currently lists Jupiter, West Palm Beach, and Boca Raton among its Florida locations, along with upcoming locations in Englewood and Orlando. The company has continued expanding through local franchise partners, with locations across several states.

The brand’s stores feature 16 rotating flavors and an extensive toppings bar. Its frozen dessert selection includes frozen yogurt, ice cream, vegan options such as oat milk soft serve, and fruit sorbets, with choices for customers looking for dairy-free, vegan, or gluten-free options.

Hershman serves as chief executive officer and leads the company’s strategic decisions, while Danny Duncan serves as co-owner and chief creative officer, overseeing the brand’s vision and social strategy. Duncan joined the company after becoming a customer at its Tribeca location in Manhattan and being impressed by the brand’s product and experience.
