RimLay Seafood is opening at 3428 E. Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach, with an opening planned for December. Owner Laddawan “Tammy” Boon-long confirmed to What Now Miami. The name of the restaurant comes from her home country, RimLay is a place next to the beach in Thailand, where Tammy is from.
The menu centers on a seafood boil, New Orleans-style with a Thai twist. “It’s going to be the seafood boil, steamed seafood with the Cajun sauce, but with Thai herbs in the sauce,” Tammy said. The sauce is built on Cajun butter, chili, garlic and spice, and the seafood is finished with salt on top.
The restaurant is about 2,300 square feet and will have 80 seats, 40 inside and 40 outside. Tammy picked the spot for its location near the beach and the amount of foot traffic.
She previously ran a seafood boil restaurant in the Washington, D.C., area, which she opened in 2018. After it closed during the pandemic, she and her husband moved to Florida planning to retire. She lives in a condo in Pompano Beach and often visited a bar next to the space, which she noticed had been empty. She pitched the concept to the landlord, who liked it, and the project grew from there.
“I think we are gonna be the best seafood boil with the Cajun style in this area because I have no one to compete with. We just try to get everybody here to get some beach, relax and enjoy,” Boon-long told What Now Miami.
