The Grog Frog Wine & Spirits, an experiential, highly curated new liquor store concept crafted from the ground up to market sensibilities, will open in Cummins Station in downtown Nashville on Friday, June 5. The Grog Frog is co-owned by Daniel Ochoterena and Robby Van Fossen, who both had careers in finance in New York City before relocating to Nashville last year to become small business owners and join Music City’s thriving economy and community.
“We’re thrilled to join the Nashville business community and deliver a wholly new, curated wine and spirits retail experience,” said Van Fossen in a statement. “Nashville and the state of Tennessee presented to us a friendly and welcoming environment to open a new business, and Cummins Station was the ideal spot featuring incredible neighbors and convenient access that allows us to establish a community around The Grog Frog, its offerings, and events.”
The Grog Frog is intended to be a uniquely elevated liquor store designed for guest education and enjoyment. Alongside taste-making bottle picks, Ochoterena and Van Fossen intend to offer recipes and mixology tips customers can follow at home. Its knowledgeable staff can help guide customers through cocktail basics or introduce lesser-known options, providing samples along the way. With an emphasis on education and community, The Grog Frog will host regular tastings and mixology events. The Grog Frog will also launch its own loyalty program.
“Even though we’re selling products for people to enjoy in their homes, we want The Grog Frog to be an enjoyable space to visit, whether you’re sticking around for a tasting, discovering your new favorite spirit, or passing through to grab something quickly,” said Ochoterena. “In our careers in finance we focused on building relationships and delighting our clients, and we are committed to bringing that level of service to the spirits space.”
Added Van Fossen, “We’re passionate about drinking good cocktails, finding under-the-radar spirits, and meeting great people in the process. We’re excited to share that with Nashville.”
The interior features a library-style atmosphere that invites browsing and discovery. The 2,000-sf space includes custom millwork throughout and a central tasting table where guests can gather. The Grog Frog will offer a range of wine, beer, non-alcoholic spirits, and more.
The store will also feature a cocktail-forward selection for enthusiasts and beginners alike to enjoy high-end drinks at home. The selection will, of course, celebrate Tennessee’s whiskey traditions and offer ancillary supplies, such as glasses and shakers that will be available for purchase. Delivery options will also be available.
Named after the rum-based cocktail grog, which was popularized by members of the British Royal Navy as far back as the 18th century, the namesake of the store reflects a drink enjoyed by Ochoterena and Van Fossen.
The Grog Frog is located at 209 10th Ave S, in Cummins Station. Validated parking is available for customers in the parking lot in front of Cummins Station.
