Known for its comfort food and fresh ground beef, popular Baton Rouge burger spot Bun’s is expanding its Acadiana footprint to Lafayette.

Owner Don Mousa said the decision to head west was driven by a dedicated base of diners making the drive from Lafayette to the capital region.

“Many customers love what we do here in Baton Rouge, and so many customers from Lafayette, they ask us to open a place there,” Mousa told What Now New Orleans.

Set to be located in a fast casual building at 2424 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy, the new location is currently undergoing a total overhaul. Rather than keeping the layout of the previous occupant, Mousa said various aesthetic touches are being added from scratch.

“Everything that we do is custom-made: the tables, the chairs… We also have our artwork custom-made right there,” Mousa explained.

When the Lafayette location opens its doors, patrons can expect the same menu that built Bun’s reputation in Baton Rouge. Mousa emphasized that the kitchen relies entirely on fresh, premium ingredients, grinding its brisket in-house and sourcing fresh seafood daily rather than using frozen alternatives. Crowd favorites include the restaurant’s fresh crawfish and egg rolls, hand-ground burgers, and signature cheesecakes and desserts.

Construction on the Lafayette outpost is moving quickly, with ownership projecting a grand opening later this fall.

The Lafayette expansion is just the beginning of a broader regional growth strategy for the brand. Mousa revealed that the team is already looking further down the road toward additional brick-and-mortar storefronts across Southern Louisiana.

“So next year, we’re going to open two more, in Gonzales and New Orleans,” Mousa said.
