A new Mediterranean concept is coming to the heart of the French Quarter as Athenian Express prepares to open at 532 Bourbon St. According to recent permit filings with the City of New Orleans, the business will operate as a fast-casual spin-off of the Athenian Bar and Grill restaurant on Decatur Street. While a menu has not been made public, permits suggest a focus on streamlined service of essential Greek dishes for which the original restaurant is known.

Both restaurants are part-owned Vasileios Zarganis, a native of Athens, Greece, and a former professional soccer player who launched the brand to bring authentic Greek flavors to New Orleans. The sit-down flagship is known for its commitment to authenticity, avoiding Americanized versions of Mediterranean dishes in favor of traditional recipes and techniques. What Now New Orleans has reached out for more information on the Bourbon Street location.
