The breakfast tradition at an established Uptown address is set to continue with the planned opening of Café Malou, which will serve modern Southern Louisiana and Continental fare, according to permit documents filed with the City of New Orleans.

When it opens at 5433 Laurel St, Café Malou will be taking the place of the Scrambled café and Toast café before that. However, don’t expect the New American brunch fare of the previous concepts. The café will offer a food menu best exemplified by some of its side dishes: patatas bravas (from Spain), eggs en cocotte (from France), and boudin. The menu brings this Old World-meets-New World sensibility to a range of toasts, sandwiches, salads, and brunch-style dishes.

The beverage menu at Café Malou will be a more modern American, featuring drinks like cardamom and brown sugar cold brew, orange blossom drip coffee, and maple vanilla café au lait. There will also be familiar-looking smoothies, sodas, and juices. Café Malou will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
