When it opens in January, Maze Cocktail Lounge will bring a fresh concept to Mid-City in the form of an elevated and modern craft cocktail lounge. According to manager Oscar Chimal, there isn’t anything like Maze in this part of New Orleans, and ownership saw a unique opportunity to offer a more modern experience to the former Cask, located at 5123 Canal Blvd.

“It’ll be something new and different that we wanted to offer to the Lakeview and Mid-City area, something more than just a barroom,” Chimal recently told What Now New Orleans. “It’ll be a place where people can come to have a happy hour drink or evening cocktail.”

Maze will offer an “escape” cocktail menu featuring cocktails from around the world. There will be an espresso martini inspired by the original cocktail from the United Kingdom. There will also be a margarita to represent Mexico and a Mai Tai to represent Hawaii.

“A lot of people in the city want to be able to escape New Orleans for a bit but they have a hard time getting around to it,” Chimal said. “At Maze, the different cocktails will provide a bit of that escape experience.”

In addition to cocktails, Maze will also feature beers and wines on tap. Chimal said there will eventually be a limited food menu of small bites, such as tuna sashimi and hummus dips, pending permit approvals from the city. DJs will provide music at Maze, but Chimal said the vibe will be subdued and far from the high-energy atmosphere of a club. Maze will be open to ages 23 and up.
