The family behind the lakefront restaurant Aperitif Spritz & Bites in Old Mandeville is preparing to expand its footprint with a new, more casual concept. When Aperitif Terrace opens later this year at 115 Girod St., it will focus on small plates and sharables, as opposed to the entrée focus of the flagship location just around the corner.
Co-owner Sara Sinclair, who operates the business alongside her husband Cayman, says the new spot— a half-block in from the lake — is designed to be more accessible for daily visits to the Northshore lakefront. While the current spot has become a go-to for ‘dressed up dining,’ Aperitif Terrace will cater to a broader audience with a come-as-you-are philosophy.
“I think when people think of the lakefront location, they feel the need to be a little more dressed up and maybe look at it as more of a special occasion thing,” Sinclair said. “Whereas with the new location, we’re hoping people will come in from riding bikes or taking a walk. They can feel a little more casual in their attire and approach.”
The new location occupies a two-story building that previously housed a pizza spot. After a fire damaged the structure, the Sinclairs purchased it and kicked off an extensive renovation. While the downstairs is receiving cosmetic updates, the upstairs is undergoing a to-the-bones renovation that will suit the layout for full table service. With both indoor and outdoor seating, Aperitif Terrace will have a total capacity for approximately 150 guests, an ideal venue for private bookings, Sinclair said.
The menu, developed by the same culinary team as the original Aperitif, will focus on shareable appetizers and small plates rather than large, formal entrees. The goal is to provide the same quality and culinary flare at a more attainable price point. Despite the expansion, the family-centric nature of Aperitif Terrace remains a core value for the owners.
“We are a family-owned business: It’s my husband and I, our son, and we also have a niece that works with us,” Sinclair said. “We think it’s important to let people know that because it just sets the tone for a great guest experience.”
