The owners behind the successful Thai restaurant Dahla in the Central Business District are apparently planning a new restaurant in Mid-City at 3420 Bienville Ave. According to permit filings with the City of New Orleans, Dahla owner Glenn Mahiya is overseeing the interior demolition of a residential home that will be converted into a small restaurant space. Mahiya and the other owners of Dahla also recently registered a new company with the State of Louisiana called Chada, which is the word for a traditional Thai headdress. What Now New Orleans has reached out for more information.
While Mahiya is part of the ownership group at Dahla, he is actually a petroleum engineer by trade. An introduction to chef-restaurateur Tom Intavichai, who had run a Thai place in Metairie, led to the creation of Dahla. While the CBD restaurant sells popular dishes like pad thai and crab rangoons, it also offers some traditional dishes from Northern Thailand, such as larb and chaingmai sausage.
