St. Mary’s Residential Community & Services has provided support to many area children and adults with developmental disabilities. Board member Rob Hecker is looking to give back to the organization that helped his son by opening St. Mary’s Restaurant & Catering.

“My son is 32, he’s disabled, and he’s never lived on his own,” Hecker recently told What Now New Orleans. “St. Mary’s does so much for us that I just wanted to give something back to them.”

When it opens this October at 4445 W Metairie Ave., the restaurant will serve contemporary breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus developed by co-owner Brad McGehee, who also owns Blue Line Sandwich Co. It will also feature a full bar with a beverage program developed by industry veteran Daniel Victory.

Hecker said he hopes the hospitality know-how behind the restaurant will help to raise significant money for St. Mary’s, an organization that he called “the best kept secret in the state.”

“If it’s successful, 50 percent of the net profit will be donated directly to St. Mary’s,” he said.
