According to documents filed with the City of New Orleans, highly successful restauranteur Jude Marullo is part of a partnership planning to open a new restaurant in Central City at 1628 St. Charles Ave. Marullo currently owns many bars and restaurants in the French Quarter and throughout the city, including Fat Catz, Funky 544 and The Original French Market Restaurant & Bar.

The new restaurant will be called Seawitch and an opening date has been set for January 2024. It would be located in the former Blind Pelican, which was a popular 24-hour spot for raw oysters and parade watching. That restaurant closed amid internal ownership disputes.

When it opens, Seawitch will add another appealing stop to the Saint Charles streetcar line and it would be another addition to the growing dining options in Central City. Ecology Beer Creative and Heard Dat Kitchen are just two of the newest additions to the neighborhood, which is also home to the widely-acclaimed Central City BBQ.
