A Tropical Smoothie Cafe is headed to Broussard, opening in Broussard, first reported by The Acadiana Advocate. The smoothie spot is set to open in the Sweetland Centre’ shopping plaza on 1209 Albertson Pkwy., in a space formerly occupied by a Taco Bell.
The new development for the franchise comes fresh off Tropical Smoothie’s announced expansion into Youngsville. Its expansion in Youngsville was an indication of Youngsville’s rise in the eyes of developers. Its expansion into Broussard is no different; Broussard’s population has grown year over year, reaching a reported 17,000 residents in July 2025.
The upcoming cafe is owned by co-franchisees B.J. Crist and Gus Rezende, who own several other Tropical Smoothies around the area, including the upcoming Youngsville location opening on 1821 Chemin Metairie Pkwy.
Tropical Smoothie currently operates 11 locations in Louisiana, mostly concentrated in Baton Rouge and Lafayette, with individual locations in Gonzales and New Iberia. The chain boasts 1,600 locations nationwide, aggressively expanding in 2025 with an additional 165 locations.
Tropical Smoothie is known for, well, their tropical smoothies, like the Bahama Mama and Sunrise Sunset. Tropical Smoothie also serves a variety of lunch and breakfast options, like sandwiches, wraps and acai bowls. The chain is currently featuring a line of protein smoothies.
The upcoming Tropical Smoothie in Broussard has yet to announce an opening date.
