A new retail and community hub for fly fishing is set to open in Harahan this fall. NOLA Fly Co. is being created by local experts as a place to service the existing community and ideally grow it. An opening is slated for mid-October.
Partner A.J. Rosenbohm, former president of the Gulf Coast Council of Fly Fishers International, noted that the store wants to challenge common stereotypes about the hobby.
“Most folks, when they see fly fishing, they see some guy standing out on a stream with a vest and a little bucket hat on with a mountain in the background,” Rosenbohm said. “But there’s a lot of fly fishing to be done down here, and you don’t have to have to, you know, be out the marshes to do it.”
Located at 5616 Jefferson Hwy. in Harahan, the shop will cater to both seasoned veterans and curious beginners. To support the growing local angling community, NOLA Fly Co. will stock a robust selection of high-end and accessible gear, ranging from rods and reels to apparel, along with specialized fly-tying materials. Additionally, the store plans to host regular fly-tying classes, beginner tutorials, and public casting clinics at local parks during the spring and fall seasons.
Beyond retail sales, Rosenbohm envisions the shop functioning as an educational and social epicenter for regional anglers.
“We’re going to provide a lot of information for folks, like fishing reports and what the fish are currently eating,” Rosenbohm said. “We want our shop to be a community place where people can come and talk fishing.”
The grand opening event in October will feature food, drinks, gear demonstrations, and brand representatives on-site. Following its debut, regular operating hours and updates will be available through the store’s digital channels.
