A Hammond store will offer high-end treasures at a fraction of their retail cost when Next to Nothing, a liquidation and value-based retail store, opens its doors this September. The store will feature a wide range of products from major big box retailers like Target, Costco, and Macy’s. It will also cultivate opportunities for people looking to sell overstock products online.

Owner Toby Parrish is bringing the concept to the Tangipahoa Parish after seeing the success of the overstock and liquidation concept in California. In speaking to What Now New Orleans, he was quick to distinguish his business from a discount outlet.

“Our goal is not to be cheap. We’re not a discount retailer, we’re a retailer that provides value,” he explained. “We’re trying to present ourselves to find the best product for the best price available to be able to pass that on to our community. It’s value shopping, not discount shopping.”

The inventory at Next to Nothing will include home improvement, apparel, and luxury goods. Customers can expect to find significant markdowns on items, including some that usually carry a hefty price tag at traditional stores.

“We will have Coach purses or an $800 All-Clad cooking set for 50 percent off or more,” Parrish noted. “We’ll have high-end designer products all the way down to just Target clothing or Costco clothing.”

For those skeptical of liquidation items, Parrish said that the business model relies on the fast-paced inventory cycles of national chains.

“There’s nothing wrong with these products,” he explained. “It’s just the way that the box stores work: They purchase products six months in advance and when the season ends, they have to clear the floor for the next season that’s coming. So, if it didn’t sell, it comes to us.”

In addition to the retail storefront, Next to Nothing plans to offer a B2B platform selling pallets to local entrepreneurs. It will also host classes on how to establish an online reselling business for overstock goods.
