A Beloved Mexican Eatery is Opening a New Location at Time Out Market Union Square

One of New York’s well-known Mexican restaurants, Tacos by Fonda, has opened a new location at Time Out Market Union Square in Manhattan. The restaurant is set to open its doors on January 23, serving its signature tacos, quesadillas, and desserts to market visitors.

Tacos by Fonda Arrives at Time Out Market Union Square

Fonda, an NYC-based authentic Mexican restaurant, is set to open a new outpost, Tacos by Fonda, at Time Out Market Union Square on Friday, January 23. Founded in 2009, the restaurant is well known for its spicy and bold Mexican flavors and dishes.

Chef and cookbook author Roberto Santibañez founded Fonda as a neighborhood eatery that focuses on traditional Mexican cuisine with a modern flair. Over the decades, the restaurant has expanded its footprint across the nation, including Chelsea, Tribeca, and Park Slope, as well as in Nashville and Tokyo. The Union Square opening marks Fonda’s latest expansion in New York City.

Time Out Market Union Square features seven kitchens, a bar, and a stage, offering communal seating for approximately 300 guests, including 70 seats on an outdoor terrace.

Menu Offerings: Classic Tacos and Crowd Favorites

Fonda’s new outpost location at Time Out Market will offer a streamlined menu designed for casual dining. Tacos are served three per order on corn or flour tortillas. Options include pollo, carnitas, quesa-birria, and pescado.
Additional items include Jack cheese quesadillas, with the option to add chicken, and sides such as guacamole with tortilla chips, a trio of salsas featuring roasted tomato, avocado salsa verde, and smoky tomatillo, and Crazy Fries topped with cotija cheese and chipotle powder. Desserts include churros, citrus tres leches cake, pastelito de caramelo, and brownie bites. Beverage offerings feature Mexican sodas and juices.
The opening adds a familiar Mexican concept to the vendor lineup at Time Out Market Union Square. The food hall also includes kitchens such as Fornino, Kebabwala, Kam Rai Thai, Anthony’s Paninoteca, Smashed Express, and Patty Palace from chef Kwame Onwuachi.
Time Out Market Union Square features a full bar with cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic options, along with a coffee and pastry program highlighting New York roasters and bakeries.
With a focus on popular menu items, authentic flavors, and a central location, Tacos by Fonda aims to serve both longtime fans and new customers in Manhattan’s new food hall destination.
