Hell’s Kitchen Sports Bar Scruffy Duffy’s Sets Closing Date

Located at 639 10th Ave. in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, Scruffy Duffy’s serves pub food and drinks. The sports bar has announced that it will be closing its doors permanently on November 29.

Scruffy Duffy’s announced its upcoming closure on social media. In the post, it thanks the community for its support over the years. However, it did not share the reason behind the decision.

In its announcement, the bar thanked customers for their support, saying, “We want to genuinely thank everyone for their support these past few years. It’s been a blast to be a small part of the Hell’s Kitchen community. Thank you to everyone who helped make Scruffy Duffy’s feel like home.

Scruffy Duffy’s Sports Bar focuses on classic American bar food, with wings as its signature offering. Its menu offers chicken wings, burgers, sandwiches, nachos, onion rings, pizza, and more. Its drinks menu includes draft beer, bottled beer, cocktails, wine, and other bar beverages.

History of the Bar

Scruffy Duffy’s was established in 1991 when siblings Pat and Eileen Hughes took over an existing bar on Eighth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen. They renamed the bar Scruffy Duffy’s and built its presence in the neighborhood.

The business became known for its made-to-order pub food, particularly its Buffalo-style chicken wings. The original location was forced to close in February 2008 because of redevelopment around Times Square. In 2019, the owners brought Scruffy Duffy’s back at its current location on Tenth Avenue, restoring its neighborhood-bar atmosphere and signature wings.

The bar’s closure prompted disappointed reactions from several longtime customers in the neighborhood. A customer on Instagram commented, “Incredibly sad you all will be missed!”

Another customer wrote, “I feel like I was just stabbed in the chest repeatedly.”

The closure will mark the end of its current run as a neighborhood gathering spot.
