New York Witnessed Long Standing Restaurant Closures in Jan 2026

Mekelburg’s

Mekelburg’s, a hybrid of a cafe, bar, and grocery outlet, shut its doors at the beginning of the new year. The Brooklyn location had served the community for about 10 years, gaining a significant following for its sandwiches, choice of craft beers, babka, hot chicken, and its role as a community-focused gathering spot.

The closure announcement post from December read, “Mek’s opened its doors in 2015 in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, with big dreams, loud music, and a whole lot of heart — and now, ten years later, we’re preparing to close our last set of doors in Williamsburg.” More details on the closure are available here.

Cafe Un Deux Trois, which operated in Midtown Manhattan for nearly 50 years, closed in early January. The French eatery, which was a favorite among theatergoers and celebrities alike, had long been a staple of Times Square, with its traditional bistro fare and nighttime café.

Steak frites, Boeuf Bourguignon, juicy burgers, and sandwiches were among the fan favorites over the longtime journey. The restaurant also dedicated a post to its long-time General Manager, Randy St. Louis, who worked through ups and downs for 29 years.

The Dallas BBQ on Fordham Road in the Bronx officially shut down after operating for over 20 years. The restaurant was part of the renowned New York barbecue chain and served as a go-to spot for casual meals among local families and students.
