There’s nothing like a good burger to bring you back to the good ol’ days. Wings, milkshakes, a nice beer – classic American food is a staple in this city, and soon you’ll be able to enjoy the best of the good ol’ days in Hell’s Kitchen.

American Retro Bar & Grill is a popular gastropub on 11th Avenue between 50th and 51st street. Founded by owner Michael Kiernan, American Retro Bar & Grill serves up classic American Fare in a retro environment that evokes the atmosphere of a traditional American sports pub. Established in 2010, the restaurant carries the long tradition of bars that have occupied the space for over 70 years, honoring its history and sharing it with guests from across the city.

Now, after over a decade of successful operation on 11th Avenue, Michael Kiernan will be opening a second outpost for American Retro. Moving into the space at 785 Ninth Avenue, the new restaurant will preserve the original concept and continue to serve retro bites like wings, burgers, and beers. The new menu promises a slew of loaded tater tots, apps, and sandwiches, as well as an all-day happy hour from 11AM – 7PM Monday – Saturday.

The new American Retro will be moving into the space formerly occupied by The Distillery Bar & Grill. As another bar & grill, the space is well-suited to meet American Retro’s needs, and the space is large enough to seat about 80 guests. Kiernan and the Retro team will be applying for an additional street shed outside that should be able to accommodate another 18 guests. Kiernan is proposing operating hours from 11AM – 4AM daily, though those hours are subject to change pending approval from the SLA committee.
