The East Village’s favorite boozy bookstore is about to get a whole lot boozier.
Book Club is an independent bookstore and cafe that features top-notch coffee, beer, and wine. Established in 2019 by owners Erin Neary and Nat Esten, Book Club reflects the dynamic spirit of the East Village with its cozy décor and specially curated book inventory. The bar is famously laptop free after 7:00 PM and on weekends (including tablets), in order to foster better relationships between guests.
Located at 197 East Third Street, Book Club has quickly become the East Village’s premiere space for live readings and author lectures. The space also features a popular cafe that serves light snacks like granola and yogurt, charcuterie plates, hummus dips, and assorted pastries and cookies. While the bar currently operates with a beer and wine license, Nat and Erin are currently in the process of meeting with the community board to upgrade to a full liquor license. This would enable Book Club to serve a wide assortment of spirits and theme-appropriate cocktails.
If approved, Nat and Erin will also be extending Book Club’s operating hours later into the night. Currently, Book Club operates from 8:00 AM – 12:00 AM Monday through Friday, and 9:00 AM – 12:00 AM Saturday and Sunday. Once the new license is acquired though, Book Club will be open seven days a week from 8:00 AM – 2:00 AM. Book Club also features a 10-seat community table, which can be reserved for group events on their website.
