Lucia Pizza is expanding to a fourth location, with plans to open at 282 Third Ave. It will join existing locations in Brooklyn, SoHo and the Upper East Side.
The family-owned brand serves New York-style pizza by the pie or by the slice. The family has been in the pizza business in Brooklyn since the 1970s, according to the Lucia Pizza website. Lucia Pizza owner Salvatore Carlino’s parents immigrated to the U.S. from Greek and Sicily and opened Papa Leone Pizzeria in Sheepshead Bay. Papa Leone closed when his parents retired, but Carlino now keeps the legacy alive through Lucia Pizza, offering a nostalgic take on the classic New York pizza shop with a modern twist.
The menu features pizzas like margherita, salsiccia (with Italian sausage, red onions, Calabrian chilis and whipped ricotta) and caramelle piccanti (with hot cherry peppers, pepperoni and Mike’s hot honey). They also serve a vodka pizza recipe — named the Papa Leone — that they have been using in the family pizzeria since 1974.
The Lucia Pizza team also operates Lucia Alimentari on West Broadway.
What Now New York got in touch with Carlino, who confirmed the forthcoming location in a message. However, an exact opening timeline for the spot remains unclear.
