One of the city’s hottest new brunch spots is getting ready for a new expansion.
Pig & Butter is a popular new restaurant from founder Sherry Grimes and Dr. Shavonne Hylton that is loved by many for serving brunch all day. Grimes, a former neuroscientist and lifelong food enthusiast, completed her formal training at The French Culinary Institute after over 10 years of self-directed culinary adventures. After graduating, she was hired as Saute Chef at Superfine, one of DUMBO’s finest seasonal restaurants. In 2009, she established the catering company Anderson’s 1949, eventually selling it in 2015, and became involved with La Finca Del Sur, South Bronx’s first-ever female-founded and operated farm.
In 2021, Grimes founded her first New York brick-and-mortar restaurant and introduced the world to Pig & Butter when it debuted at 134 Ludlow Street. Celebrated for its breakfast sandwiches and mouthwatering pancake options, Pig & Butter won the hearts of the local brunch crowd with its all-day breakfast-inspired menu. Now, it appears that Sherry and her team are gearing up to launch Pig & Butter’s first-ever expansion. According to a recent liquor license application, Sherry and her team are currently looking to move into a new location at 42 Avenue B. The location was formerly home to Post and its eventual replacement Looker, but the space has remained vacant for some time. According to the application, the space is estimated to seat a total of 25 guests inside at once.
According to a sample menu, Pig & Butter’s Avenue B expansion will offer the same breakfast-inspired dishes that fans have come to love as well as a few additions. Brunch options include deviled eggs, Korean short ribs & grits, and challah French toast as well as bao options with Korean fried chicken and smoked neckbone. The beverage program, which was put together by Dr. Hylton, will be especially robust and will feature a wide variety of gin “toniques” and other cocktails as well as Kings County Brewers Collective beer on draft and Doc’s Cider.
Before the team can release more information though, they must first acquire a liquor license. Sherry and her team are now getting ready to meet with the community board and are proposing operating hours of 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM on Wednesday, 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM on Thursday and Friday, 2:00 PM – 1:00 AM on Saturday, and 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM on Sunday, while remaining closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
