A new Mexican restaurant is coming to Dumbo, according to a liquor license application filed with Brooklyn Community Board 2. The upcoming, yet-to-be-named restaurant is set to open in the restaurant space of the mural-adorned building on 5 Front St., which has sat empty since Gran Electrica closed at the end of 2024.

The upcoming restaurant comes from Julian Brizzi, the owner of bar Grand Army in Boerum Hill and Mediterranean restaurant Celestine, which operates a few minutes away from the upcoming 5 Front spot. Brizzi is also in the process of opening an Italian restaurant, Carina, in Greenpoint.

Operating in a 2,000-square-foot space with additional outdoor seating, the restaurant will be open from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Sundays to Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 12 a.m on Fridays and Saturdays. According to minutes from the community board meeting, the project is aiming to open by early June.

Brizzi says the restaurant is still in its infancy, with few details ready to share. Stay tuned for more information.
