Chef Flynn McGarry has a new concept in the works for 299 West Houston Street in Hudson Square. The restaurant, called Cove, is slated to open this coming fall, according to the Cove website.
McGarry is also behind fellow New York concepts Gem Home and Gem Wine. Gem Home offers specialty items, fresh groceries and vintage and design objects, and it acts as a breakfast-and-lunch cafe that serves a menu featuring locally-sourced ingredients. McGarry recently announced that he would be closing his wine bar, Gem Wine, at the end of March after an eight-year run on Forsyth Street. The Instagram statement on the Gem Wine page stated that “the time has come to focus on our other projects.”
Now, McGarry will focus on Gem Home — which soon will be serving dinner in addition to breakfast and lunch — and the forthcoming concept Cove. While details remain largely unknown, the new restaurant will seat 70 guests and offer an a la carte menu for the main dining room, according to reporting by Eater NY. Like Gem Home’s cafe, the menu at Cove is expected to have elements of local East Coast produce. However, Eater reported that the menu will also have West Coast influences.
McGarry has been active on the culinary scene since his teenage years, when he began hosting pop-ups.
What Now New York got in touch with a spokesperson for Cove, who confirmed the concept but did not provide further information prior to publication. Stay tuned for updates.
