A glass-enclosed rooftop concept is heading to Pier 57. The City Winery team, helmed by CEO Michael Dorf, is finishing construction on Miru, which will take over a 6,000-square-foot rooftop space. It is expected to open by the beginning of June.
Dorf told What Now New York that the spot will serve Japanese cuisine. The name “Miru” translates to “look” in Japanese, which the team selected because of the views from the venue.
“It’s really unique. You get full 365 views of the west side of Manhattan,” Dorf said. “You get a great view north towards Hudson Yards — a perspective that’s special because you’re way out in the middle of the Hudson River. To the south, you get this incredible view of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and New Jersey.”
Miru will have a sushi bar, Japanese bites and an extensive sake list. Dorf said they are aiming to create a “fun, raucous dining experience” and listening space for customers. The design will be clean and simple, emphasizing the view.
The space will seat 75-100 people for dinner, with room for 150 people later in the evening, when Dorf expects it to transform into a club-like space.
Dorf is looking forward to bringing a new culinary option to the pier, which already houses the James Beard kitchen, the Pier 57 market and the flagship wine bar for his company City Winery. He is also planning to bring a new Mediterranean concept to the pier this year.
“City Winery is known for our music and our winemaking. Now we get to show off these great culinary opportunities and combine it all in this pier that already has great culinary momentum,” Dorf said. “I’m excited to help bring the entire pier to its full life.”
