Devoción Coffee has a new location on the way to 1134 Broadway, with plans to open the spot this spring.

Founder and CEO Steven Sutton told What Now New York that they try to place their shops strategically throughout New York without oversaturating the market.

“We want every shop to be thoughtful and unique,” Sutton said. “We want them to be a destination.”

The brand currently has spots in Williamsburg, Downtown Brooklyn, Dumbo, the Flatiron District and Midtown. Sutton viewed a NoMad expansion as the natural next step for the brand.

“NoMad is a great neighborhood in the city,” he said. “It has a beautiful mix of residential, office [and more]. It just makes sense for our brand to be here.”

The space will be smaller than other Devoción locations, clocking in at about 700 square feet. There will be limited seating, but the brand design, including greenery, earth tones and a warm atmosphere, will remain.

“We’re trying as hard as we can to keep that atmosphere guided by the attention we put into all our spaces,” Sutton said.

Originally from Colombia, Sutton launched Devoción in 2006 when he noticed that most coffee beans are left to sit around for months prior to use, diminishing the flavor of the beans. At Devoción, the time between processing the beans in Colombia and reaching a shop in New York is 10-45 days since Devoción has its own processing facility in Colombia and then roasts the beans in Brooklyn. The process is streamlined to make the turnaround time as brief as possible.

Sutton hopes to continue on his mission to bring the freshest coffee to New York City. He aims to open another four locations across Brooklyn and Manhattan over the next few years. Neighborhoods of interest include the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side.

“Everything we do has a meaning and purpose,” Sutton said. “We are a lifestyle brand, and it starts with how we interact with our communities locally here and at the source.”
