The team behind Dos Toros Taqueria is looking to open a new outpost of their authentic California taco joint in Chelsea.
The team acquired the 1,651-square-foot ground floor space at 315 7th Avenue for their newest location, which will be their 18th outpost in the city, according to their website. The space had been vacant for over a year, according to leasing documents obtained by What Now New York. Billed as “bringing the best of the Bay Area taqueria experience to NYC & D.C. one burrito at a time,” brothers Oliver and Leo Kremer launched their company in New York City back in 2009.
“We are at our favorite taqueria eight days a week, so it was a rude awakening for us to come East and realize that the same stuff simply wasn’t available,” the Berkeley-natives write on their website. “We decided to do something about it.”
The team contributes its success in part for using high-quality ingredients including supple beans, fluffy rice, fresh veggies and meat that is “grilled to perfection,” as well as their stealth cooking techniques.
Their business model is similar to that of Chipotle’s assembly line, however, the team told Eater almost a decade ago, they are not worried about competition.
“We’re not afraid of Chipotle,” the duo said. “We’re doing our thing.”
The company currently boasts outposts in Williamsburg, the West Village, the Upper East Side, Union Square, Brookfield Place, 45th and Lexington Avenue, Downtown Brooklyn, Maiden Lane, 54th & Lexington Avenue, 52nd and 6th Avenue, Bryant Park, Flatiron, 48th and 5th Avenue, State Street, 40th and Madison, Columbia and New Hyde Park, according to their website.
It also recently launched two new locations in Washington, D.C., in Chinatown and Dupont Circle.
