Hollycake House Earns Recognition for Vegan Breakfast Sandwich
Hollycake House has been named one of the top vegan breakfast sandwich spots in the country by PETA. The cafe in East Rochester was recognized for its Venetian Breakfast Bagel Sandwich. PETA released a list of several breakfast spots in America as a part of Top Eggsellent Vegan Breakfast Sandwiches, and Hollycake House was one of them.
The recognition follows a rise in bird flu cases that sent egg prices soaring, fueling interest in vegan alternatives. Ingrid Newkirk, President of PETA, stated, “Every winner on PETA’s awards list shows that delicious vegan eggs can start your day right in every way.”
The cafe was started by husband-wife duo Chuck and Holly Bianchi. They opened their East Rochester storefront in November 2021. Everything on the menu is fully vegan, with numerous gluten-free options also available.
Inside the ‘Eggsellent’ Sandwich
The Venetian Breakfast Bagel Sandwich features a house-made vegan egg patty layered with pesto, spinach, tomato, Violife mozzarella, and Beleaf bacon on a toasted bagel. Guests can also opt for the sandwich as a wrap, including a gluten-free version.
PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said, “Hollycake House has created a cracking good sandwich that’s kind to chickens and their customers’ arteries, and bursting with flavor.” The bakery also accepts orders for custom cakes and baked goods for every occasion, including weddings, anniversaries, and baby showers.
The recognition marks a milestone for the East Rochester cafe. The cafe continues to build a following with creative, cruelty-free dishes that appeal to a growing plant-based audience.
