Brooklyn-based pizza spot Fornino is heading to the forthcoming Time Out Market New York, Union Square, slated to open this fall. The spot will be the first Manhattan location for Fornino, which currently has locations in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Greenpoint and Time Out Market New York located in Dumbo.
Michael Ayoub opened Fornino in 2004 in Williamsburg, bringing his own twist on artisanal pizza to the New York market. Fornino, a nod to his mother’s maiden name, translates to “little oven” in Italian.
The menu speaks to Ayoub’s deep dive into the craft of making pizza. It honors various eras of pizza, ranging from more traditional Italian offerings to Ayoub’s creative topping mixes.
The forthcoming location at Time Out Market New York, Union Square, will offer signature pizzas like a mixture of soppressata, buffalo mozzarella and broccoli rabe, as well as items like salads, focaccia sandwiches, breakfast sammies on housemade focaccia, and rotating specials highlighting fresh local ingredients, according to the Time Out website.
Time Out Market announced its Union Square food hall earlier this year, marking the second Time Out Market in New York City, joining the existing one in Dumbo. Time Out Market is known for bringing beloved local flavors under one roof. This location will feature seven kitchens, a bar and a stage, as well as communal tables and about 300 seats, including some outdoor seating.
Other tenants announced for the Union Square location include Kebabawala from the Unapologetic Foods team, Taqueria El Chato and chef Kwame Onwuachi’s Patty Palace.
