An exciting new restaurant is gearing up to open in Alphabet City this year.

Michael Droney is a well-established restaurateur with years of experience. He is best known for establishing Punch Bar & Grill, Wined Up Wine Bar, and Gleason’s Tavern on West 41st Street. While Punch and Wined Up have since closed their doors after nearly a decade of operation, Gleason’s Tavern is still thriving in midtown after a difficult series of challenges imposed by the recent pandemic. Now that life has begun to return to general normalcy though, Mike is now getting ready to once again launch a brand new concept of his own design.

His latest concept, which has yet to be officially titled, is envisioned as an American bar and restaurant that will be opening up at 23 Avenue A. The space was previously home to Brooklyn Bean Roastery, a coffee shop, bookstore and roastery that sadly closed down during the pandemic.

According to a sample menu attached to Mike’s liquor license application, his new concept will place a special emphasis on sandwiches and burgers, offering additional salads and flat bread pizzas. The restaurant is also expected to serve traditional large plates like New York strop steak, fish and chips, and a daily pasta option. For the beverage menu, Mike has prepared an impressive array of specialty craft cocktails, draft beer, and wine.

While Mike is still very early into the process of preparing the space, he is currently getting ready to meet with the community board to acquire the necessary liquor license. He is currently proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 2:00 AM from Sunday through Wednesday, and 11:00 AM – 4:00 AM from Thursday through Saturday, though those hours are subject to change pending the board’s approval. Unfortunately, Mike is still too early into development to share any social media profiles for the space, so you will just have to keep an eye out for further updates until Mike is ready to share more details.
