A yet-to-be-named bar concept is slated to replace Karma Sutra at 51 First Avenue in the East Village, according to liquor license paperwork filed with Community Board 3.
Eugene Lennon, who opened Lower East Side bar The Mayfly in September 2021, is behind the new bar. The new spot will be an Irish-style gastropub with a menu similar to The Mayfly, the filed paperwork indicates.
Like The Mayfly, this new bar will offer menu items such as locally sourced pickles, marinated olives, nachos, truffle fries, wings, grilled cheese chicken tenders, burgers and flatbreads. The beverage program will feature cocktails, a few mocktails, white and red wines and draft beers.
The new spot will have 18 tables that will seat a total of 72 customers, as well as two bars — one on the first floor and one in the basement. The proposed hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. from Monday to Thursday, 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday, 12 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday.
Lennon is also one of the owners behind Trinity Pub, which has been open on the Upper East Side since the 1990s. His other bars include Juke Bar in the East Village and Juke Bar BK in Brooklyn.
As of now, it is unclear when the new bar concept plans to open in the Karma Sutra space. What Now New York reached out to Lennon for additional information but did not receive more details prior to the time of publication.
