A new steakhouse is joining Rockefeller Plaza this year. Jack D’s Steakhouse has taken a lease for a roughly 8,600-square-foot space at 75 Rockefeller Plaza.

“Like a lot of other people, I love steak and potatoes,” co-owner Christopher Dorrian told What Now New York. “I was in a restaurant in New Jersey with my two brothers and it was an open-flame steakhouse, and I just fell in love with the idea of the place. I thought it would be great in New York.”

Dorrian grew up in the restaurant and bar business. He has partnered with experienced restaurateur Craig Pogson, former partner of French bistro La Goulue, for this venture.

Dorrian shared that they felt Rockefeller Center is an ideal spot for the concept because of its strong activity during both the daytime and evening.

“Why do you go to Rockefeller Center? Because that’s where the people are,” Dorrian said. “That area is exploding. Midtown East is where the action is right now.”

Jack D’s has been working with Wid Chapman on the design. It will feature an Art Deco interior and two floors, about 220 seats and two bars. They are also bringing in a meat aging room sourced from Germany.

Its menu will concentrate around wood-burning ovens. The menu will offer steakhouse fare such as steaks, fish, chicken, pasta and salads. The beverage program will offer cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as a wine program helmed by Pogson.

The team is targeting late August for a soft opening, with plans to fully open in September.

“What we want to do is have a place where people want to come and where people are treated well. We want to know our customers and treat them well,” Dorrian said. “The big thing about restaurants is, how do you get people to come back? You take care of them. That’s the plan.”
