A new Japanese restaurant, KOMENORI, is set to open in Park Slope, according to a liquor license filed with Brooklyn Community Board Six. The restaurant is set to open on 397 5th Ave. in mid-to-late April, moving into a 1,400 square-foot space that formerly held Flatiron Steakhouse.

KOMENORI is co-owned by experienced restaurant owner Ken Lee and chef Sean Kang. While Lee has launched several restaurants in New Jersey and Connecticut, the upcoming restaurant will be Kang’s first. Kang spent over a decade in kitchens from Korea to New York. He was the head chef and general manager of DOMODOMO, which held a Michelin Bib Gourmand from 2017 to 2023.

Diners at KOMENORI can choose one of three courses: hand roll, sushi & hand roll and its signature course. While the hand roll course gives diners full control of their meal, its other two courses contain elements of an omakase experience, giving Chef Kang discretion over the sushi selection from day to day. “Sean will have full creative freedom in the kitchen without any interference,” Lee says. Diners can also order some a la carte cold and hot dishes like smoky wagyu carpaccio and Korean fried chicken as well as supplementary sushi and hand rolls.

“Sean and I came together as we both love creating new menus and working with people,” Lee says. “We are excited to finally open in Brooklyn after searching the area for a while.”
