Lin & Daughters is bringing fast-casual Chinese comfort food to the Flatiron District, with plans to open at 776 Sixth Avenue. This will be the brand’s first expansion since owner Becky Lin opened the first location in the West Village.
Lin started Lin & Daughters as a way to continue her family’s tradition of making dumplings. Lin began working in her family’s Chinese restaurant Lin’s Kitchen as a teenager, and her current restaurant is a nod to her father and her two daughters.
“Through the act of dumpling making, we created fond memories as a family and grew stronger and closer as a result. Dumplings aren’t just food to us, but also a symbol of love and unity,” the Lin & Daughters website states. “Lin and Daughters is a concept born out of my wish to recreate those feelings of being with one’s family. It’s a place that I hope will make you feel welcomed, as if you were coming to my home to eat food that might remind you of your parents’ or grandparents’ cooking.”
The menu is inspired by Lin’s experiences, from watching her mother and grandmother cook as a child in China to working in Lin’s Kitchen growing up. The menu features generational recipes and plenty of hand-made dumplings such as Lin’s pork and chive dumplings, pan-fried cumin beef dumplings and pan-fried vegetable dumplings. Other menu items include wonton soup, noodle soup and peanut butter noodles.
Lin & Daughters is expected to open in the Flatiron District later this summer.
