Mexican Eatery Cemitas El Tigre Bids Farewell This October
Cemitas El Tigre confirmed on Instagram that it will close on Friday, October 24. The post highlighted the restaurant’s growth from a small Sunnyside eatery into a beloved neighborhood destination.
“From humble beginnings in Sunnyside, what started as a small dream turned into a decade of food, laughter, hard work, and community. We’re so proud of what we built together — and even prouder that the spirit of Cemitas El Tigre lives on at our sister restaurants,” the post read.
The restaurant’s post thanked its staff, guests, and neighbors for their support over the past decade.
“To our team, past and present — thank you for your heart, your hustle, and for making this kitchen a family. To our guests and neighbors — thank you for every visit, every kind word, every celebration you shared with us. You kept us going for ten unforgettable years,” the post continued.
Thanking the Sunnyside community, the restaurant announced that a new eatery will replace Cemitas El Tigre.
“And to the Sunnyside community — thank you for embracing us from day one. It’s been an honor to serve you and to be part of this neighborhood’s story. A new restaurant will soon take our place, and we hope you’ll show them the same warmth and support you’ve shown us,” the post said.

About the Restaurant
Located at 45-14 48th Avenue, Sunnyside, Cemitas El Tigre is known for its 10-layer “cemita” sandwich. They are layered with avocado, Oaxaca cheese, pickled onions, papalo herb, chipotle puree, black bean puree, lettuce and tomato, stacked with a meat or vegetarian filling.
The menu also includes burritos, tacos, craft beer, wine, and milkshakes. The business grew from a street food vendor into a full brick-and-mortar restaurant.
As Cemitas El Tigre closes its doors, it will be remembered for its signature sandwiches and the warm, community-focused atmosphere it cultivated in Sunnyside.
