Farm-to-whisk matcha concept Matchaful has a new location under development in Tribeca, according to a recent social media announcement. Tribeca Citizen reports that the location will open in Independence Plaza at Harrison and Greenwich by the end of the year.
Hannah Habes is the founder behind Matchaful, which opened its first cafe in 2019.
“When we first opened on Canal Street, it was such a joy to serve this neighborhood. Closing left me with the hope that one day we’d be back — and after a little time apart (and a lot of searching), we finally found a spot that feels like us,” Habes stated in the announcement. “This time, you’ll find us on beautiful Greenwich Street, where the energy feels magnetic, the sidewalks are constantly buzzing, and soon, the matcha will be flowing.”
This will be the eighth location for the local brand, joining existing locations in SoHo, Nolita, West Village, Midtown East, Brookfield Place, Clinton Hill and Williamsburg.
Matchaful emphasizes botanical nutrition in its recipes, taking matcha a step beyond traditional matcha lattes and into the realm of more creative handcrafted drinks. Offerings include Vanilla Zen (Hikari Ceremonial Matcha, Madagascar vanilla bean, GABA tea, cinnamon, maple and oat milk), Earth Glow (Hikari Ceremonial Matcha, tocos, taro, butterfly pea flower, blue spirulina, maple, Madagascar vanilla bean and oat milk) and Ginger Zing (Hikari Ceremonial Matcha, ginger, turmeric, camu camu berry, peppercorn, honey and macadamia milk). Other offerings include plant-based snacks.
“A key component to Matchaful is our focus on botanical nutrition — a plant-based philosophy that elevates individual ingredients through pairings that enhance their unique health benefits,” the website states. “We weave the ancient wisdom of adaptogenic and herbal remedies with wholesome ingredients to create health-forward products bursting with flavor and matcha-driven goodness.”
The mission of the brand is to nourish the mind, body and spirit, influenced by ancient Japanese techniques. All of their matcha is sourced from a sustainable, fourth-generation Japanese tea farm. Matchaful cafes are designed to have a calming interior that matches the zen-inspired effect of matcha.
