One of Manhattan’s favorite new taco restaurants is getting ready for an exciting new expansion.
Los Tacos No. 1 is a popular New York-based taqueria that has been steadily expanding its profile for the past decade. The company was founded in 2013 by three friends, Tyler Sanders, Christian Pineda, and Kyle Cameron, who got their restaurant started in Chelsea Market. A successful architect and designer, Pineda designed the space himself after an authentic Tiajuana taqueria. Today, Christian and his partners have turned Los Tacos No. 1 into an award-winning concept, receiving a New York Times Critic Pick and the designation “Best Taco in America” by Fox News.
At the moment, Los Tacos No. 1 currently operates five locations across Manhattan, and now the team is getting ready to move into a brand new neighborhood. The team’s latest expansion will see the taqueria settling into FiDi in a brand-new space at 20 Broad Street. The owners have leased 3,009 square feet of space on the ground floor, and the lease start date is May 2023.
For the restaurant’s menu, it was very important for Pineda to keep the menu simple. Offering a tight selection of beef, chicken, steak, and vegetarian tacos, the restaurant follows the notion that is better to do one thing and do it well than to spread yourself thin with too many distractions. Pineda once spoke to the New York Business Journal when they were just getting started, and explained that he and his partners “wanted to thrive on doing something well and didn’t want to get too ‘chefy'”, adding that they didn’t want to “oversaturate the menu with a thousand items.
Beyond Los Tacos No. 1, Pineta and his partners also operate the popular seafood restaurant Los Mariscos, and Chelsea Market’s breakfast burrito spot El Donkey. According to the restaurant’s Instagram, Los Tacos No. 1’s FiDi expansion is currently slated to open this summer. While you wait, be sure to check out Pineta’s other concepts and follow Los Tacos No. 1 on Instagram for further updates as the restaurant continues to expand across the city.
