The brains behind Madame Vo are currently gearing up to launch a brand new sister restaurant – or should I say, brother restaurant.
Monsieur Vo is a brand new restaurant from owners Yen Vo and Chef Jimmy Ly. In 2017, the two launched Madame Vo as a love letter to homestyle Vietnamese cooking that spotlights family recipes for noodle soups, spring rolls, and other classic dishes. The two owners also operated Madame Vo BBQ, the city’s first-ever Vietnamese barbecue restaurant, which served up flavorful meat dishes and offered the traditional feast of “Beef 7 Ways”, a seven-course beef dinner that is very popular in Viet Nam. Sadly, Madame Vo BBQ closed as the pandemic began to batter the city and the space has remained vacant since.
Thankfully, now that life has begun returning to general normalcy, Vo and Chef Ly are now ready to resume their plans for the space, albeit under a different name. Formerly operating as Madame Vo BBQ, the space at 104 Second Avenue will soon house the team’s latest concept – Monsieur Vo. According to a recent post on Madame Vo’s Instagram account, the team is hoping to debut the concept on September 14th later this month.
Envisioned as a brother restaurant to Madame Vo, Monsieur Vo is described by the owners as a “new Vietnamese restaurant that spotlights modern, creative takes on meat and seafood, street food, and comfort food.” The restaurant was designed as a love letter to the elemental Vietnamese tradition of “ăn nhậu”, a form of communal dining that typically takes place outdoors and features plenty of drinks.
Additionally, Chef Ly also announced that he would be partnering with Abrams Books to bring an official Madame Vo cookbook to shelves later this year. If you’re interested in trying your hand at learning the ins and outs of fine Vietnamese cooking, be sure to check out the book for a special insight into the techniques behind Madame Vo’s success. If you simply can’t wait at all, then at least be sure to follow Monsieur Vo on Instagram for sneak peaks and regular updates as they gear up for their grand opening.
