Ann Arbor’s Zingerman’s Deli is opening a pop-up at Olly Olly Market in Chelsea on Oct. 7. This will be the brand’s first appearance in the city.
The 41-year-old Michigan-based Jewish delicatessen is an award-winning sandwich shop that has received raving reviews from the likes of Barack Obama and Oprah, as well as famous food critics. The pop-up is slated to offer seven of its 35 staple sandwiches including its renowned reuben, pastrami and corned beef on rye, as well as select sides like chips, potato salad and coleslaw. It will be open from noon until 8 p.m. unless it sells out for the day. All sandwiches cost $25 and comes with a pickle spear.
The sandwiches that will be available include their signature Reuben, Sherman’s Sure Choice, Jenny’s Fix, Binny’s Brooklyn Reuben, Georgia Reuben, Tom’s New Job and Lily & Izzie’s Skokie Skidoo.
The Michigan-based shop rarely travels out of state, making this pop-up a once in a lifetime opportunity for New Yorkers to try it for themselves. Merch including t-shirts, beanies and a pickle football will be available. Fans can rest assured that the University of Michigan football game will also be steaming from an on-site TV at the market.
The independently-owned concept was founded by friends Paul Saginaw and Ari Wienzweig who wanted to bring a traditional Jewish deli to their college town of Ann Arbor. Both went to undergrad at the University of Michigan. In 1988, the team founded a non-profit food bank and food rescue program called Food Gatherers.
