Lingo has announced that it will be closing its doors this month. The restaurant shared that the closure will mark the beginning of a new concept in the same location. The news prompted mixed reactions from the community.

Lingo Is Closing Its Doors in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Lingo is a Japanese-American restaurant located at 27 Greenpoint Avenue in Brooklyn. It is known for combining Japanese flavors with familiar American and European comfort food. It announced that it will be closing its doors permanently on October 25.

The restaurant announced the news of its closure on social media. The post thanks the community and team for their support over the years. However, it did not share the reason behind the closure.

The post reads, “After three and a half wonderful years, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Lingo. Our last day of service will be Sunday, October 25.”

Lingo opened in 2023 by Misako Hsu, who also established Shiki NYC, a Japanese-inspired catering business. It has received recognition from the MICHELIN Guide for its distinctive approach to cooking. Its menu puts a Japanese twist on familiar dishes rather than serving only traditional Japanese cuisine. Its offerings include small plates, seafood, pasta, sandwiches, meat dishes, desserts, and creative cocktails.

The restaurant’s name refers to the Japanese word for apple and also nods to New York City’s nickname, the Big Apple. Some of its notable menu items include Lingo Beef Pie, Apple Tart Tatin Pancakes, Fresh Pasta Mentaiko, and Tokyo Banana Sundae.

One customer on Instagram commented, “What a run! Can’t wait for the next chapter!”

A customer also wrote, “We have had so many special meals with your lovely team and always a warm welcome. Thank you for being a special place for our family. Glad we got one last breakfast set and hope to be back soon.”

Another customer wrote, “I’m crushed, I’ve had so many amazing meals there.”

Lingo will close its doors this month, marking the end of its run in Greenpoint. Its upcoming change will mark a new chapter for the space.
