A new, long-awaited restaurant concept from chef Ignacio Mattos is set to open at the Nine Orchard Hotel early this year, a spokesperson confirmed to What Now New York.
Amado Grill is Mattos Hospitality’s newest concept that has been in the works for the past two years, according to Eater. Mattos, the Uruguayan-born chef and founder of Mattos Hospitality, also owns and operates a few other concepts in the city, including Corner Bar, which is also at Nine Orchard Hotel, Estela, his first concept that holds a Michelin star, Altro Paradiso and Lodi.
Amado Grill bills itself as a “whimsical and romantic restaurant in downtown New York City,” with fare made from the finest ingredients that the land and sea can offer.
“The idea was to create a few different universes, this one taking inspiration from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, going into this journey underwater and having that serenity you have when you are diving, that time stops,” Mattos told the Wall Street Journal.
Amado Grill is slated to offer a 38-seat dining room with a four-course tasting menu priced at $125 per person, according to its website. It will also boast a robust beverage menu.
The space itself will be an aquatic-themed room with sea-blue plastered walls and upholstered banquettes, which was designed by Fernando Santangelo and features artwork from Harold Ancart.
