After a long vacancy, the space that previously housed Gunter Seeger’s eponymous Michelin Starred restaurant has finally found a suitable replacement.

Mes Amis is a brand new restaurant concept from owners Maurice Eldeiry and Joseph Eltahawy that is currently expected to open up in Greenwich Village later this year. Maurice is a Long-Island based restaurant and club operator who is best known for running the Mystic Gardens Hookah Lounge in Farmingdale, New York. His new concept, Mes Amis, is described as a “neighborhood friendly, go-to hang out for residents of the West Village” that will serve “a contemporary menu of small and large plates coupled with a sophisticated, yet simple beverage program, catering to a broad customer base .”

Mes Amis is currently scheduled to open up at 641 Hudson Street, moving into the space that previously housed Gunter Seeger’s award winning restaurant concept. While the restaurant sadly closed in 2020 during the pandemic, Chef Seeger has thankfully brought the restaurant back to life in a new space in Atlanta. The beautiful space is outfitted with modern new amenities and features about 3,640 square feet of space between the ground floor and basement.

Maurice has additionally supplied a sample menu alongside his liquor license application that will give readers a good sense of what to expect from the menu. For the preliminary menu, Mes Amis will offer elevated small plates like oysters, duck lettuce wraps, lobster quesadilla, Portuguese octopus, and tuna poke tacos. For their main dishes, Mes Amis will serve guests upscale plates like Branzino, pan seared scallops, steak, and ravioli, as well as salads and sandwiches like the chorizo burger and Korean fried chicken sandwich. The menu even lists a s’mores parfait and a berry cobbler for its desserts section.

In addition to the food, Maurice intends to offer a sophisticated beverage program with beer, wine, and plenty of craft cocktails. He is currently getting ready to meet with the community board to acquire a new liquor license and is proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 4:00 AM every day, though that information could change pending any decisions from the board.
