A flavorful new Indian restaurant is currently gearing up to open on East 10th Street.

Red Onion is a brand new restaurant concept from owner Dr. Neel Nayeem. The concept is envisioned as an Indian restaurant with a full kitchen and liquor license, and will serve its customers authentic Indian cuisine on a daily basis. Dr. Nayeem is a health-conscious medical professional with a background in pain management and Physical Therapy. Before turning to hospitality, he served as Medical Director at Pain Care NYC, where he specialized in Outpatient Orthopedics and knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgery.

Keenly aware of the importance of proper nutrition for the body, Dr. Nayeem has begun developing new restaurant and retail concepts to help bring healthy foods to New York. He currently serves as the President and CEO of PokeMom, a new Asian-fusion restaurant based out of Queens. He also just recently launched ShopNeel, a new retail store in Jackson Heights that will specialize in selling nutritious fruits, vegetables, and juices. And now, Dr. Nayeem is getting ready to bring a brand new concept to the East Village.

At the moment, Red Onion is currently slated to arrive at 277 East 10th Street, between First Avenue and Avenue A, near the corner of Tompkins Square Park. The location is currently occupied by Fox & Jane Salon and is expected to be able to seat about 20 guests inside at one time. Dr. Nayeem is also looking to acquire a liquor license for his new restaurant, and is proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM Sunday through Thursday, and 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM on Friday and Saturday. Additionally, his license application indicates that he intends to offer happy hour specials that will end by 7:30 PM.

While Dr. Nayeem continues to prepare his restaurant for a Grand Opening, you can follow along with him at Red Onion’s Facebook page for more information.
