A new women’s sports bar called Wilka’s is seeking a liquor license at 241 Bowery. Wilka’s is expected to open in the space formerly home to Greek restaurant Karvouna Mezze.
Wilka’s is part of a larger wave of women’s sports bars opening across the country, kickstarted by trendsetters like The Sports Bra, which opened in Portland in 2022. There is also a women’s sports bar called Athena Keke’s heading to Clinton Hill, as recently reported by What Now New York. Like these bars, Wilka’s will aim to create a community around equality and diversity in athletics.
The paperwork indicates plans for a menu featuring both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as small bites and meals like popcorn, pretzels, flatbreads and grilled cheese sandwiches. The owners also hope to source their beverages from women-owned producers.
“Inspired by the strength and unity of a wolf pack — “Wilk” means wolf in Polish — Wilka’s embodies a fresh start and a sense of togetherness,” the Wilka’s website states. “Located in the heart of Manhattan, we’re redefining the sports bar experience. Whether you’re a dedicated fan, a former athlete or just here for the energy, Wilka’s welcomes you with open arms — and signature cocktails, crisp beers and game-day snacks to match. Come for the games, stay for the connections and join our growing pack.”
The interior is expected to have 21 tables that will seat 56. There will also be a bar that will seat 13. The paperwork also indicates that Wilka’s plans to host some live entertainment such as music and comedy.
Proposed hours are 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily, with hours extended to 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
What Now New York reached out to the owners for more information, but they declined to share further details at this time. An opening timeline remains unclear, with the website listing the location as “coming soon.”
