The long-anticipated Japanese restaurant expected to join the Wegmans Astor Place location at 770 Broadway appears to be in the works, according to reporting by Eater NY.
The spot appears to be hiring for staff positions at the moment for the restaurant, which will be called Next Door at Astor Place.
The Next Door brand currently has a location open in Rochester, where Wegmans is headquartered. The spot is known for sushi and seafood dishes, and it serves a couple other selections such as a burger and truffle mac n’ cheese.
“Something magical happens when you combine contemporary Japanese-inspired grilled cuisine, exceptional hand-rolled sushi, the world’s freshest ingredients, rare fine wines by the glass and best-in-class service,” the Next Door website reads. “You get a memorable dining experience designed to delight your senses and exceed your expectations — each and every visit.”
Wegmans currently has more than 110 stores across eight states, with a strong presence of nearly 50 stores in New York. Founded in 1916 by John and Walter Wegman, it remains family-owned, with fourth generation family member Colleen Wegman serving as CEO.
As of now, it is unclear precisely when the Next Door will open at the location. What Now New York reached out to representatives at the company but was not provided with further details prior to publication.
