Bonjour, New York! One of the most popular Parisian food trends has finally hit our shores, and it appears that New Yorkers just can’t get enough of it.

Barachou was founded by Parisian entrepreneur Rebecca Tison in August 2019. Barachou is a pastry shop that specializes in French cream puffs and other French and American inspired delicacies. Known as choux à la crème in France, the specialty creampuffs are one of Paris’s most popular street foods.

Realizing a massive gap in the New York market, Rebecca decided to open up a choux shop on the Upper West Side. With an emphasis on style and taste, Rebecca serves up a colorful assortment of choux with unique, American-inspired flavors like Peanut Butter and Oreo. Offering different choux according to the seasons, Barachou became something of an Instagram icon thanks to the eclectic and artistic designs on the cream puffs.

Previously only available on the Upper West Side, Rebecca is now taking her highly sought-after creampuffs downtown, intending to open a second location in Hudson Square. Barachou’s latest expansion will see the popular pastry peddler opening at 15 Eighth Avenue, replacing the Zen Mars art project that previously occupied the space. Zen Mars was a unique live experience that invited guests to enjoy a simulation of the surface of Mars, covering the floor in pink “Martian” sand and creating a kind of sci-fi Zen garden where guests could meditate and envision a life among the stars.

With only 608 square feet of space available, the cozy location is about par for the course for the West Village. Thankfully, the pastries are easily accessible from the counter and the limited space will make the ordering process as efficient as possible. In addition to the new location, Barachou is also available for private catering and wholesale. For more information on catering or just for more pretty pictures of delicious cream puffs, be sure to follow Barachou on Instagram for further updates.
