Chef Hiroki Odo is bringing a new location of his eponymous restaurant brand Odo to the former Minca location in East Village at 536 East Fifth St. Minca closed at the location earlier this month.

The Japanese restaurant is expected to have three tables with eight seats, as well as a food counter and bar that will seat 15, according to a filing with the community board. Proposed menu items for this spot include grilled edamame, sliced roast duck, red snapper sashimi, sea urchin, yakitori, grilled mackerel, steamed fresh oysters and chicken noodles.

Originally from Japan, chef Odo moved to New York in 2012 and worked as head chef at Kajitsu, which gained Michelin acclaim during his time there. He opened his own restaurant, odo, in 2018, and gained a Michelin star in 2022 and two stars in 2023 and 2024.

Odo is also behind wagyu hamburger and cocktail spot HALL, to-go sushi brand SUSHI MUSE and food-meets-art spot THE GALLERY by odo. Most recently, he opened a speakeasy concept called odo Lounge in 2023.

This new iteration of the odo brand in the East Village is expected to undergo renovations over the next few months, according to EV Grieve. An exact opening timeline has not been announced yet.

The proposed hours of operation for the forthcoming location are 12 p.m. to 2 a.m.
