PLNT Burger is a popular vegan restaurant known for serving classic American fast food with an elevated, chef-inspired twist. Founded by Chef Spike Mendelsohn in 2019, PLNT Burger has quickly spread its roots and now boasts over 10 locations across the East Coast. While the vegan burger joint initially began inside Whole Foods markets, they opened up their first full brick-and-mortar store in Union Square in January (as we have previously covered), and are gearing up to add even more by the end of the year.
PLNT Burger’s motto is “Eat the change you want to see in the world,” and everything they do reflects that core value. Desiring to bring people together and celebrate the joy of life, PLNT Burger looks to make vegan dining as fun and accessible as traditional fast food, only with much higher standards and a severely limited environmental impact. To start the chain, Chef Mendelsohn teamed up with Beyond Meat Chairman Seth Goldman and partners Jonah Goldman and Benjamin Kaplan to bring to life their shared vision of a fast-food restaurant that was as healthy for the consumers as it was the planet. Leveraging their collective decades of experience and insight, they launched PLNT Burger in 2019 and have been growing rapidly ever since.
Now, a month after opening their first standalone brick-and-mortar shop, PLNT Burger will be developing a second storefront at 1147 Broadway. The new restaurant will occupy the ground floor of the building and should offer about 1,350 square feet of space for guests. PLNT Burger will be replacing Angelano Inc, a local retail store for beauty supplies. The burger has developed a unique reputation in the city and is a noted favorite of committed vegan Mayor Eric Adams, who has been caught by press occasionally grabbing a burger to go.
