After a nearly six-year run, PrimeThyme Kitchen & Bar is planning to close on the Upper West Side, according to a recent Instagram announcement. However, the owners plan to bring a new concept to the space.

PrimeThyme’s last day of service will be Nov. 5.

“We’ve loved hosting you and celebrating with you through every season, every menu and every pop-up concept that kept things fresh and fun,” the announcement states. “Thank you for being part of our story and for the endless enthusiasm and support through it all. Here’s to what’s next.”

PrimeThyme’s closure will “make room for something new,” according to the announcement. What Now New York confirmed with co-owner Orly Gottesman that the team does plan to reopen with a new concept in the space, though details regarding the new restaurant remain scarce at this time. A name for the new concept remains unknown at this time.

PrimeThyme, formerly known as Thyme and Tonic, offers an upscale restaurant atmosphere that serves a menu that caters to those with dietary restrictions. From the team behind local gluten-free bagel brand Modern Bread & Bagel, PrimeThyme serves items that are gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and kosher. The menu features items like seafood, sandwiches, burgers and steak alongside an inventive cocktail program.

Gottesman’s journey into gluten-free baking began when her husband was diagnosed with Celiac disease as they were dating. The experience led Gottesman to open Modern Bread & Bagel in 2019, as well, which now has locations in New York, New Jersey and California.

At this time, it is unclear if the new concept heading to the Upper West Side space will bear any resemblance to PrimeThyme or if it will again cater mainly to gluten-free meal options.
